I have just finished mounting the LCD and the backlight onto the front panel. It was a little difficult because there was little space due to the already mounted potentiometers; maybe I will mount the potentiometers as last parts in my next K1 ;-)
As you can see on the picture I have chosen the 200 ohm resistor for the backlight to get brighter display but at the cost of 3-4 milliamps.
I have also learned that my soldering iron is not ESD safe at all! Every time I was soldering a pin of the LCD the corresponding segment lit up slightly. Quite worrying. Eventually I will have to buy a decent soldering iron but right now I just hope everything survived my ESD-hard treatment :-S
